K is for Kissable Lips

K: Kissable Lips

Winter time is NOT a good time for lips.

They are exposed to the harsh cold, wind, and generally bitter and grumpy elements and can become chapped, sore, and unhappy.

But now, with Spring finally here, it's the time to give your lips a pick me up and make them "kiss ready."

Here are my tips for a one-way ticket to beautiful lips that put a spring back in your step!

Exfoliate

My Lipscuff from The Body Shop saw me through the winter!
Just like you would exfoliate the skin on your face/body, your lips need the same treatment. Find a lip scrub that is not too abrasive, that will help get rid of those nasty areas of dead skin and make your lips soft and super smooth.

If you don't have a lip scrub, another trick I use is to buy an inexpensive toothbrush, apply a thin layer of lip balm to my smackers, and gently brush my lips with the toothbrush. This will also help get rid of dead skin. You do have to be very careful though, as brushing too hard can damage your lips....and that won't do your lips any good!

Hydrate

Lip Balm always lives in my handbag

Give your lips a good moisturise with a lip balm. If your lips are susceptible to the elements and get chapped easily, apply liberally and whenever you need it. Lip balm helps make sore lips feel better, and protects them from the enemies of soft lips. Lip balm helps maintain a soft lip, locks in moisture, helping create a nourished, happy mouth!

Yay!

Paint

An optional step, but one that I am a big fan of. It's lip gloss/stick time. And this is the fun part. You can go for whatever shade/finish you like, and can mix and match to your heart's content. Go for colours that complement your skin tone and hair colour. I usually opt for a neutral colour during the day, and go bright and bold for a night time lip. Applying lip colour will help draw the eye to your lips, and make them the centre of attention, letting the world know how amazingly soft they look.

If you are unsure about what lipstick to go for, swatch the sample product in store, or go to a make up counter/shop and ask for some advice. It's always good to know which colours to stick to, and which to avoid. (I definitely orange lipsticks....I'll give you one guess why!)

What are your top lip tips? (See what I did there?)
