It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas...

Hello Everyone!

Today is the last day at work for me before the Christmas holidays. I should be really excited, but instead, I'm trying to squeeze all my packing in between my two shifts at work.

Tonight; I'm driving down South to stay overnight at my parents'.

Tomorrow, we're going on holiday!! Woohoo!!

A part of me is going to miss the traditional Christmas, but another part of me is SOOOOO excited to be going away. We're staying in the Netherlands, and on Christmas Day, we're going to one of my favourite places in the world....

Efteling!!!!

Hopefully I'll be able to blog whilst I'm away. (I've checked with my parents to make sure there's internet!!) Mama Ginger's given me a list of things I need to pack (yes, even though I'm nearly 26), and I'm in the middle of trying to decide if I really need to take 4 dresses with me for a week (it's good to have choice, right?)

These past few weeks have been so crazy, that I'm really looking forward to 2 weeks off work to unwind. Although, there won't be a single day in those 2 weeks where I'm not doing something. I've got a full itinerary. It's very rare that I'm down with my parents for anything more than a weekend, so I'm squeezing in a tonne of visits to see my friends, to go shopping in Oxford Street, and catch up with Southern Life in general....I can see there being lots of mulled wine and mince pie consumption!!

Yum Yum!!

And then, when I get back, Spotto is taking me away for a surprise birthday weekend, so my head will keep spinning until at least 6th January!! I'm usually really bad at surprises, but I'm really looking forward to doing something I haven't planned for my birthday!

It's such a crazy life!!

The Christmas Tag

Today, I'm feeling very festive. It was my last day at work yesterday, and was given a neautiful fairy Christmas tree ornament as a parting gift. It's the first new ornament I've put on my tree, like, ever!!

Soooo exciting!

I found this tag on SweetieSal 's blog, and thought it would be perfect to heighten my current festive cheer!!

I tag all of you! Post your links in the comments below!!

What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
There are SO many things I love about Christmas; Mince pies, mulled wine/cider, Christmas dinner, spending time with my friends and family....the list is endless! But, I'd say that the thing that really gets me excited for Christmas is buying presents for everybody. I love choosing gifts, then seeing people open them! Makes me feel so happy seeing my friends and family happy too!!

What's your favourite make up look for the festive season?
For a festive look, I love a neutral smokey eye (using my Naked Palette or Coastal Scents Palette) with black winged eyeliner and lots of glitter! I tend to opt for a nude lip regardless of the season, but add a pop of festive colour on my nails!

Real Tree or Fake Tree
Fake tree. Real trees make lots of mess, and don't last very long. My parents and I have spent a few Christmas-es at Sherwood Forest Center Parcs, and there, we got real trees, because after Christmas, Center Parcs recycle them. But I have a fake, pre-lit tree.

Giving presents, or receiving presents?
Giving presents! Definitely  I love choosing presents, wrapping paper, gift tags, then getting them ready under the tree and giving them to my friends and family!

Do you open your presents Christmas morning, or evening?
It really depends on what we (my family) are doing. Usually it's in the morning, but if we're going somewhere, we save presents for later on in the day.

Handmade cards or bought?
If I had loads of spare time, I'd make my own cards, but I always get shop cards, and if I can, those that support a charity.

What's your favourite Christmas film?
There's only one option...The Muppets' Christmas Carol. In my opinion there is no better Christmas film. It was on tv last weekend when I was at my friends' house, and I got SO excited!!

What's your favourite Christmas food and drink?
For food, it's got to be roast potatoes, with pork and apricot stuffing! It's so delicious!!!! And for drinks...mulled wine or cider! Nothing like one of those to warm your cockles! Having coffee shop drinks at Christmas time is great too because they come in festive cups!!

Botanics All Bright Cleansing Foam Wash | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger

Lately, I have been really lazy with my skincare routine! I decided it was time to change, and picked up the Botanics All Bright Cleansing Foam Wash from Boots whilst on a shopping trip, to try and get myself into better habits!

I have really, REALLY sensitive combination skin, so always try to go for products with natural ingredients. My skin reacts to things really easily.

The All Bright Cleansing Foam Wash is £2.66 on the Boots website. That was one of the main reasons I was drawn to it....budget busting cleanser ahoy!!

The scent is what I would describe as "clean". There aren't any definite notes I can pick up in the smell. It just leaves your skin with a really fresh scent. Definitely my cup of tea!

I used this cleanser twice daily for five days on the go, and for the first few days, my skin felt really soft after using the cleanser. I could feel that my skin felt cleaner. It was lovely.

But then....something happened.

The cleanser, although leaving my cheeks super soft, left my T-zone really dry and sore. I am sure that on normal or even oily skin this cleanser would be great, but for me, using it every day was just turning out to be too much. I'm not sure what it is, but something in the ingredients is just too abrasive for my skin.

I think the Botanics range in Boots is great. I've used products from the range before with no adverse effects. I do think though, that if you do have sensitive skin, the Botanics All Bright Cleansing Foam Wash would be much better used as a once-a-week scrub. That's what I'm going to do with mine. Hibiscus is a skin brightener, so using this will be good to lighten up duller looking skin in these Winter months!

Christmas Is Coming | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger blog

It is bitterly cold today. I have spent the last few hours curled up underneath a blanket trying to get warm. Brrrrr!

I have been getting SOOOOOOO excited for ChristmasAnd, because I'm feeling particularly festive today, I thought I'd share some of my recent Christmas/Winter inspired Instagram pictures!

I couldn't believe it when The Muppets' Christmas Carol came on at the weekend. It is my all time favourite Christmas film, and really got me in the Christmas mood! I've also been chow-ing down on home cooked comfort food lately, and made myself a massive batch of chilli with nachos and sour cream!

This hot chocolate was HUGE! The mug had two handles, and the barrista serving me had to check with me TWICE that I wanted the large! ....Of course I did!

Mama Ginger came up this weekend just gone, and together, we blitzed all my Christmas shopping! I got some really cute wrapping paper from Marks and Spencer with matching gift tags. It looks so lovely. All the gifts for my friends and family are now under my tree.

I put the tree up so early this year that I was the first out of everybody I asked to have it all ready. I held off decorating it until 30th November though. I have the lights on every evening. and it makes my whole house seem so magical.

The Get To Know Me Tag | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger blog

Today, I thought it'd be quite fun to do my own Get To Know Me tag. I found some good ones from Pink Porcelain which I used to help inspire me! I know I did my Facts about Ginger series, but this gives me a chance to share some more about me with you...the big wide blogging world!

What is your favourite season?
Winter! I absolutely love it! When the weather starts to turn colder there's nothing I love more than curling up in my pyjamas by the fire with a blanket and mug of hot chocolate....and then of course, Winter means Christmas! Yay.

What is your favourite colour?
Green...always green! Although, over the past year, I have been really drawn to orange too! I have a luminous orange hoodie from Primark which I love, but always gets me a few looks... Jealousy! lol

What is the first thing you do when you wake up?
Cleanse and moisturise my face. I can be really lazy about doing this, so if I've made it my routine to do it very first thing. After that I get changed, and turn on the kettle!

Trousers or skirts?
Skirts. Definitely! And dresses! I'm not really a trousery person....unless you count jeans. Leggings are usually my staple if I'm looking for something to wear besides a skirt or dress.

What is your favourite make up brand?
High end I am in LOVE with MAC. If I could buy everything they produce, I would. But in reality, I only have 1 lipstick at the moment. Drugstore make up wise I tend to dabble...I love Natural Collection lipsticks, and Rimmel's Wake Me Up Foundation. There are too many good products out there to settle for one favourite.

How old are you?
25....almost 26....my birthday is in January. I'm trying not to think about it!

Sweet or Savoury?
I just love food! And what I eat really depends on my mood. I am an absolute chocoholic, but I really love cheese too! I guess at the moment, I'm eating more savoury things because I'm cooking/eating a lot more "comfort" food!

High heels or Flats?
Er...they're both shoes! Shoes are amazing!!!!!
Okay...I'm calm....
Flats definitely see me through the day. The only time I wear heels during the day time is if they are a boot, or they are a mid heel. Super high heels I save for my nights out. They ruin my feet!

Are you a romantic person?
Definitely! I love the idea of being swept off my feet, and I am an absolute believer that true love is out there for everybody!

Favourite film?
Gone with the Wind! Absolute classic! Vivienne Leigh is just absolutely beautiful, and the character of Rhett Butler...Oooo I love it!

Celebrity Crush?
Am I allowed 2?!
1) Johnny Depp...always and forever!
2) Chris Hemsworth....I have to stop myself dribbling when I watch Avengers Assemble or Thor!

Greatest Ambition?
First would be to get a book published, though, at the moment, I really don't have the confidence to put anything out there.
Second...just to be happy, to love, and live for the moment....A bit cheesy I know, but I just want to live my life surrounded by people I love, love me back, and support me no matter what happens. With love, anything is possible.... (*Cringe* UBER CHEESE! ...Sorry)

Ultimate ALL TIME favourite song?
"Kiss from a Rose" by Seal.
Although...I love music in general. I go through stages of listening to certain songs on repeat, but "Kiss from a Rose" has been my favourite for YEARS!

Girly girl or Tomboy?
I used to be SUCH a tomboy! My whole bedroom was Thomas the Tank Engine themed, and I was never into anything girly. But now, I am definitely a girly girl! Absolutely no question about it! hehe

What would you do if you won £10,000,000
Firstly, I would buy a house in the countryside. Then, I'd pay for my  good friends and my family to go on an ultimate holiday (they all deserve it). I'd give quite a lot away to charity, invest some, and of course, go on a little bit of a shopping spree in NYC!!

I tag everyone! Leave links to your in the comments section below! I look forward to seeing your answers!

Current Beauty Favourites | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger blog

It is so cold today! I can't believe it...the cold has crept in even more overnight, and out came my most snuggly jumper this morning to keep me warm.

I don't usually do a monthly favourites post, because I'm quite loyal to the products I use, but recently, I've found some new gems!

Face

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (010 Ivory)
This is my most recent find, and  am absolutely IN LOVE with this concealer! It really brightens up my face, and hides my dark under eye circles, which, when you get up really early in the morning for work, and are pale anyway, is a very good thing!! I'm so impressed by the coverage, and the consistency of this concealer. Usually, I find them really cakey, but this one is amazing!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation (100 Ivory)
A few weeks ago, I did a review on this foundation. I'd heard a lot of really good things about it, and after a while of using it, I haven't been disappointed! The coverage is medium, and very buildable, the consistency is smooth, and the colour is an almost perfect match to my skin! Combined with the concealer, my skin looks instantly refreshed!

Lips

Carmex Mouisturising Lip Balm
A good lip balm is essential for me in the chilly weather. My lips get so chapped and sore that I regularly need something soothing to put on them. I had been using a Body Shop lip balm, but I was touching pan with that. I picked up Carmex because a) It was reasonably priced in Boots, and b) I've heard a lot of good things about it online.

I've been applying it everyday since I bought it, and seriously, my lips have never felt better! Some lip balms I find to be really gungy and leave my lips a bit too wet and shiny, but Carmex I can put on, and it leaves the perfect amount of sheen. I can instantly feel it helping my lips, and it smells really refreshing (like menthol.)

Nails

Rimmel I Love Lasting Finish Nail Varnish (500 Disco Ball)
About a month ago, I went out to a rave. I had been looking for a top coat that I could apply over my nail varnish for an added touch of girly sparkle, and found this Rimmel polish. Usually, I do go for quick-dry polishes, but there were none to be found, so I took a risk!

This nail varnish is great! You get so many sparkles in each application, and it adds a great bit of glitz for the party season. The formula  can be a bit gloopy, and takes a little while to dry, so you need to have a bit of patience with it.

The only downside to this product that I've found is that if it comes out on the brush too thick, it does lift your other nail varnish off, so you've got to be careful their isn't too much product on the brush. For a touch of glitter on a night out, this is a great little product to add to your collection!

Body

Soap & Glory Flake Away Body Polish
This is my absolute favourite recent find. I discovered it whilst going through my beauty drawer, and haven't looked back! I'm a big fan of Soap & Glory anyway, but this body polish....well...there are no words to describe how much I adore it! I've used it up already and I've only been using it about 3 weeks!

Firstly, it smells AMAZING! So sweet and delicious you actually want to eat it! The scent really seeps in to your skin too, and lasts for ages (especially when you use a Soap & Glory body moisturiser too!) The product itself isn't harsh at all, and really works to make your skin soft and supple. Every time I have a bath, I use this on my legs, and it makes them so smooth, I can't actually believe it! This product is top of my wish list for Christmas. It's absolutely fantastic!!

There you have it, my current beauty favourites. I don't know what I'd do without these products at the moment....every time I use them, I feel absolutely fabulous!

What beauty products are you loving?!

Lush Magic Wand Bubble Bar | Just Add Ginger

lush magic wand bubble bar
Instagram: @gingerjax

I have been absolutely loving my baths lately. I have one nearly every night now that the weather is a lot colder. Being a girlie girl, I do like to indulge in a bit of a girly princess bath. Recently, I went into Lush to have a look at their Christmas goodies and found this little beauty - the Magic Wand Bubble Bar.

The bar (as you may have guessed) is shaped like a wand, with a cute ribbon and bell attached to it. It smells exactly like Snow Fairy (very sweet and delicious...you almost want to eat it it smells so good!) I spent ages in Lush deliberating over this bar, but once I had a demonstration, I was sold....

It turns the water pink! Simply wave your wand under hot running water, and immediately a gazillion bubbles appear. Honestly; this is one of the best bubble bars I've had! The bubbles fill up your bath as soon as you start using the bar. It also leaves your skin really moisturised, and smelling delicious. What more could you ask for? The lovely Lush sales assistant told me this bar would last about three baths, but so far it's latest my five...and counting.

At £4.95, this bubble bar is a delicious bath time treat. It's beautiful and magical, and looks pretty sitting in your bathroom. Also, it doesn't leave any residue in your bath, so if you share your tub with anyone else, you don't have to worry about cleaning off glitter every time you use the bar.

If you're looking for a new Lush product to try, I can't recommend the Magic Wand Bubble Bar enough. It's definitely a must-have for these chilly November nights!

What bath products are you loving at the moment?

I Love Autumn | Just Add Ginger

You may have noticed that I have been away for a bit (again!) I'm SO sorry. I've been having some serious computer issues, which are finally getting resolved, and on top of that, I have been really poorly!

I'm still not 100%, but I'm getting there. This time of year is terrible for bugs and viruses flying around.... BLEURGH!!

But, I can't feel sorry for myself too much, because it's now officially AUTUMN! And that means that very soon it will be Winter...and then Christmas. YAY!

I LOVE Autumn. Autumn means warm socks, mulled wine, cosy hoodies, fires and hot chocolates...Ooooo, I love it so, so much!

The cold seems to creep up on me up here. It has been ridiculously cold...because I've been ill, I thought I'd invest in a onesie. A few of my friends have them, and they look so snuggly I couldn't resist!

This is from Primark, and was around £10. How bargainous is that? I wore it last night and it was so warm!

I may have to look out for another one...good to have choice, isn't it?

Spotto is here visiting me! Last night we went out to Frankie & Benny's for cocktails and dinner! I decided to dress up a little bit because going out at the weekend is something I really enjoy, and it's nice to feel special when you've spent all week in slouchy clothes!

I thought this outfit was effortlessly chic, and didn't look like it took too much time to put together. I think it would be perfect for a night out with friend's, a casual school/office look, or even a date night.

What do you think?

Have A Clothing Clear Out | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger blog

Thank goodness it's Saturday!

Recently, I've been having a bit of a sort out of my clothes...I have a huge sort out about this time each year, and turn out clothes that are too shabby, too big, too small, or that I'm just not going to wear any more. As a 20 (something) year old, I feel that I'm still in between my teenage self and my grown up self in terms of fashion, and sometimes I will buy something, and a few months down the line think...

"Eurgh...I'm too old/young for that!"

So, having a clear out every once in a while makes me feel better. I either donate the clothes to charity, or sometimes, sell bits and pieces on eBay. Either way, I know that somebody else will be enjoying something that I've had!

I've cleared out two HUGE Primark bags already of tops, dresses, pyjamas and more...it is so cathartic, and lets me see all the great things I have in my wardrobe...

It's so colourful!
p.s: I did take more photos, but I am having SERIOUS camera issues. But that's a story for another day!

Sometimes I wish I could go back in time and change my style. I look back at some pictures and... 'What on earth was I thinking' runs through my mind! So, with that in mind I've put together a few outfits for a "Back To School Lookbook" that I would wear now if I was going back to school this term.

If you are heading to college/university soon, I think it's really important to take key versatile pieces with you. You will be shopping at uni, and have major influences and changes to your style. I know when I was at uni, there was one certain person who really inspired my style and fashion choices...those influences are still with me six years on!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger blog

A few weeks ago, I picked up the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation on a whim, just to see what it was like. I had heard a lot about this foundation online, and I wanted to see what all the hype was about.

I picked this up for £8.99 in Tesco from the Rimmel section. At first, I wasn't completely sure about the shade, because some "Ivory" products on me make me look like a ghost. But the colour is near enough a perfect match, and the formula of the foundation is so blendable and smooth that it leaves a natural finish with a really good coverage.

The packaging feels really high end too, and I love the cool design of the bottle. I think it looks really feminine, and the orange accents on the lid and text make me feel happier just looking at them!

Just Add Ginger blog

The one thing I would say about the formula is that it does have a golden sparkle in it, which gives your skin a dewy finish. After applying the foundation to my skin, my fingers are always uber sparkly and glittery. If you have oily skin, I don't think you'd particularly like this foundation for that reason...you don't want to find that the oiliest parts of your face are highlighted and stand out more!

Not so sexy!

However, if you have normal/combination skin, I think the dewy finish adds a really nice highlight to the skin. You can build up the foundation too to get the coverage that you want/need....BONUS!!

Just Add Ginger blog

The foundation is so easy to apply...probably partly thanks to the pump at the top. You seriously only need a pea sized amount if you're looking for a little bit of coverage, and this completely "wakes up" your skin. In the morning, I literally crawl out of bed and put on my make up, and since using this foundation I have really seen a difference. Putting it on makes me instantly feel more alive, and look less like a zombie!

The scent is really lovely too...very fruity and fresh. I'm not really a fan of overly scented products, as they can sometimes irritate my skin, but this foundation is perfectly balanced.

I can't rave about the Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation enough. For a high street foundation, I think it's brilliant, and does exactly what it says on the label. If you're looking for a foundation that gives a natural finish, but has buildable coverage, I'd definitely recommend it.

It's £8.99 worth of skin investment.

Primark & MAC Haul | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger blog

Today in the UK, it is Bank Holiday Monday, so naturally I forgot to turn my work alarm off...Hello 8/10am wake up call. FAIL!

Anywhoo....here is a haul of all the goodies I picked up t'other day in town. Again, please don't think I'm showing off. I just want to share what's out there on the high street at the moment (I've been really impressed.)

Primark Goodies

 £3.00....Bargain!

These shoes were a bit of a risk, because I can't really wear shoes without straps (my left foot has no arch!) But they are SO comfortable...and they have really good grip so stay on my feets! I don't know what you'd call them. Kind of a cross between a deck shoe, a loafer and a plimsole...

A Ploafdeck?!

Only issue...because they are stretchy them come up big...I had to buy a size 5 instead of my usual 6, and they are still a teeny bit big on my right foot!

You know when you are in a shop, and you pass a garment. Everything goes into slow motion and angels start singing? ...I had that with this top! I LOVE it! It has such a whimsical print, and has STUDS (my current obsession).

The dipped hem gives an edgy twist, and the top itself is so comfy! Would look good with denim jacket, leather jacket, or drawn in at the waist with a belt. I might even try wearing it with some denim shorts and tights for the Winter. Can see this being really versatile!

£6.00

I absolutely love the colour of this top...can see the maroony-purple coming back for the Autumn/Winter season on the high street. I knew I had to invest the minute I saw it. The hem doesn't quite cover the derrière area, but would look great with jeans or shorts if you don't want to risk it with leggings...but the fabric has stretch, and feels so luxe. Beautiful!

£13.00

This was the first item I picked up on my shopping trip. I saw the silhouette, the full shirt, and in my basket it went! I'm one of the those really excitable people who likes to spin around to make my skirt swing out, and this dress does not disappoint. There is a zip down the back of the dress, which makes the top really fitted, and the skirt flare out more. It's the kind of dress that you could wear day to night, style up or down, and is flattering for all body types...You can't go wrong really!

Just Add Ginger blog
£13.00

I've saved my favourite until last. I love, love, love this dress! The contrast piping and collar as well as the print itself are just stunning. And it's such a flattering shape too. (It did come with a belt, but I took it off...I'm not a huge fan of Primark belts...the sizing is a bit strange!) The dress is double layered, so if, like me, you have broader shoulders, you may want to try a size bigger, because you might find the arm holes a bit tight. But this dress is so gorgeous. I went to my friend's house yesterday, and wore this dress. Everyone was shocked when I said it was from Primark.

Seriously, go and check out Primark! They have so many amazing clothes at the moment. I've been so impressed with the quality and design too! Definitely beats the recession blues when you can treat yourself to lots of lovely things without breaking the bank!

Well done Primark!

"Angel" Frost Lipstick

Popped my MAC cherry at last! 'Angel' is a frosted pinky nude that looks like it's going to be perfect to wear for day or night out looks - I can't wait to give it its first outing.

Shopping the high street and looking for good pieces goes to show that you can still treat yourself from time to time without breaking the bank.

All hail the high street!
