D is for Dreams

D: Dreams

When I was a little girl, I had lots of different dreams. I wanted to be a princess, a mum, a teacher, a pony.....then, as I got a bit older: a dancer, an egyptologist, an actress, a writer......

When you are young, it seems like the sky is the limit. There are so many exciting things to explore and experience, you don't have to worry about deciding what you want to be when you grown up, or what you want to do with your life. You've got loads of time to decide.

And then...You become a grown up!

And then, you start to worry. Because what do you want to be? What do you want to do? One day you think you know, and then the next, you're not so sure.

"Life isn't a destination. It's a journey"

Some days, I get really worried. Lots of my friends are now in long term relationships, or have well paid jobs, or have babies. And me? Well, I'm just there, prancing along. Not with the highest paid job, or the biggest house, or the nicest wardrobe....but just living.

I have dreams. Of course I do. But my dreams seem to be a work-in-progress. I'm laying the foundations on which I can build my house of dreams, and it takes time. But it's hard not to get caught up in looking at the lives your friends have and thinking, "but I want that too!"

We can't measure our lives by the lives of others. Things will happen for each and every one of us. But only exactly when they are meant to. That is something we need to remember.

Here are some of my dreams:

To Love
To Laugh
To Help
To Write
To Travel

These are my dreams. And one day, they will all come true.

I'm going to make sure of it!

  2. This was an absolutely lovely post. You are so very right; it's about the journey. I'm delighted to have found you in the A to Z Challenge. I'll be back tomorrow to see what comes next.

And don't forget, in the words of John Lennon, "Life is what happens when you're busy making plans."

  3. I think the real beauty in dreams is leaving room for life. If we get too caught up in where we want or need to be, we forget to stop and enjoy our many blessings!

    1. I agree. That's why I now stick to looser dreams. Dreams that could take many forms! As long as those around me are happy, and I live a full life of no regrets, the rest will fall in to place! :)
