Rosie For Autograph | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger blog

I had seen bits and pieces floating around the blogosphere about the Rosie For Autograph make up collection at Marks and Spencer before deciding that was one bandwagon I had to jump on. The eternal magpie, it was the packaging that drew me in first. Sleek, chic and rose gold. What more could you ask for? It looked gorgeous.

Wanting to be selective, and honing in on the things I actually needed, I put in my order for the Eyeshadow Palette in I Feel Like A Million Dollars, the Insta Lash mascara in Black, and Highlighter Powder in Rose Bud. I could totally have gone overboard, but I didn't want to pick up too many things just in case we didn't get along.

As soon as I saw my little stash in person I couldn't help but swoon over the packaging. It looks so luxurious and glamorous that I just couldn't wait to open everything up and get experimenting. Call me silly, but having this type of make up in my collection really makes me feel like a grown up. It looks so much more high-end than it is, and just looking at it makes me get a warm fuzzy inside. With Rosie's signature delicately embossed on each of the pieces, the packaging doesn't look cheesy or tacky. It's the kind of make up I'd display with pride of place on my beauty shelf. In short, I loved it.

But you can't always judge a book by it's cover. As pretty as the packaging was, was I going to be just as impressed with the quality of the products themselves? Or was it going to be the type of make up you don't really like, rarely use, but keep because it looks lovely? Not being able to contain myself, I cracked open all three products and decided to test them out all together, starting out with the eyeshadow palette.

Smooth, creamy, finely milled, and full of pigment, each eyeshadow glided on to my lids with ease, and were incredibly easy to blend, with both day and night time looks easily achievable. A creature of habit, I love my neutral and earthy browns and taupe colours, and this palette definitely did not disappoint. All the shades completely complement each other, and work really well with my skin tone. It's such a cute little quad that it would be the perfect travel companion. With this in your travel beauty bag, you wouldn't really need much else. Since first using it, it's now really the only palette I've been turning to of late, and I can see that being the case for quite a while.

The highlighter powder I was a little apprehensive of at first, for the simple fact that I usually make a totally mess out of loose powders. So you can imagine my delight when, upon twisting open the top of the container, I discovered there was a little mesh insert by which I could control how much of the product I could dispense by tapping it in to the lid. Something that, if you're like me, I totally recommend! The highlighter itself was beautiful, with a cool-toned frostiness that again really worked with my skin tone, adding a subtle, yet buildable glow that looked incredibly natural. It is a little tricky to blend, but I find that by using a denser brush, you can get that subtle finish instead of a stripe of highlight across your cheekbone.

Out of all three of my purchases, it has been Inst Lash that has taken the most getting used to. When I first applied it, I found it to be quite a wet formulation, and as someone who is terrible at applying mascara, it went al over my upper lids. However, I will say that after using the mascara for a few weeks, the application process has got better. I'm not sure if it's because the product has dried out a touch, or if I'm just getting better at this stage in my make up routine, but now we're getting on famously. It's one of those mascaras that helps to create really voluminous lashes without that spidery effect, and I love the overall look it creates. Perfect for wearing during the day, but something that can be really amped up for the evening. An all round winner in my book.

I have been really impressed with everything I picked up so far. They have quickly become staples in my make up routine, and I wouldn't hesitate in picking up more of the range. (I've already got my eye on the lipsticks and cream eyeshadow sticks!)

If you want to see how I've been wearing all the Rosie For Autograph products I picked up together, I preview a look in my Spring GRWM.

Montagne Jeunesse Hot Chocolate Masque | Just Add Ginger

Just Add Ginger blog

When you hear the words Montagne Jeunesse does it take you back to being on the cusp of your adolescent years, and venturing in to the world of beauty products other than those you got free with "Shout" and "Girl Talk" magazine? I know that that;s where it immediately takes me.

It's a brand that always brings back the nostalgia. And one that I never tire of cheekily indulging in from time to time. So when I saw the chocolate-themed bumper pack of face masks on Feel Unique I knew I had to invest. Chocolate + Beauty Products = Jackie is in heaven.

I pulled out the Hot Chocolate Masque at random. With everything in the pack of five having a cocoa theme, I knew any would satisfy my inner chocoholic. As soon as I cut open the packet, I was hit with the fragrance. To be honest, I was expecting it to be more chocolate-y, it being a hot chocolate mask and all, but it was the orange oil that came through the most. This wasn't a bad thing. However much I love chocolate, I think a really intense fragrance sat on my face for 15 minutes might have given me a headache.

The masque instantly turned warm as soon as it hit my skin. It was a lovely sensation, especially after a little time out in the cold during my evening commute. The consistency was a little on the runny side, and I found myself unable to use the whole pack on my face because there was just so much. Looking back, I could have probably saved the second half for another time, but there was no real way to store it without everything getting coated in chocolate-y mess.

I sat back and relaxed as 15 minutes ticked. As usual, I got distracted watching YouTube videos and went over the time when I needed to wash my face. The reminder was the slight tingly, itchy sensation on my nose. Taking that as a sign, I rinsed the masque off with warm water, and patted my face dry. Any longer, and I think my skin would have just found the masque formula too irritating (I have a very sensetive visage!)

The hot chocolate masque claims to cleanse the skin, leaving it feeling "soft and refreshed." Was my skin clean after using it? Yes. Was it smooth? Kind of. To be honest my skin felt borderline smooth and dry. Although the masque is suitable for all skin types, I don't think it was quite right for me. I need something really hydrating, and this, although fun to use, wouldn't give me the long-term results I look for in a face mask.

Having said that, I am really looking forward to trying the other masks in the Chocoholic Delight Pamper Pack. It's going to be a novel element to my skincare routine to use when complete girly escapism is needed.

#AtoZChallenge / Kick Ass Concealer (Soap & Glory)

Just Add Ginger blog

Just Add Ginger blog

Just Add Ginger blog

Disclaimer: Before I get in to my review I must apologise for the state of the product photos. For reasons which will become clear in the review, I left taking them too late and now they look a bit messy! Eep!

When my beloved Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer started to run out, I was a bit at a loose end. Should I repurchase? Or should I bite the bullet and go for something different?

The lack of my concealer shade in my local drugstore made my mind up for me. Instead of despairing, my eyes fell upon the Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer. Having heard lots of promising things about the product, I decided to be brave, break my habit of a lifetime, and try a different beauty product.

The S&G Kick Ass Concealer is a 3-step concealing product. Step 1 - an apricot tone colour-correcting concealer. Step 2 - a fleshy toned facial concealer. And Step 3 - a pressed setting powder. I had never seen a product like it, and was really excited to crack it open and give it a try.

One of the reasons I love Soap & Glory is because their pretty packaging is always on point. And Kick Ass is no exception. The unmistakable pinks, and stand-out typography make it really stand out in your make up drawer, and instantly attract your eye. The packaging is plastic, with each step located in a separate tier, each of which can be opened separately to help keep everything clean and tidy.

The two concealer shades are rich and creamy, and apply to the skin beautifully. The apricot shade is perfect for counteracting those dreaded purple hues of tired under-eyes, and the skin-toned shade was an amazing match for my face. I picked up the concealer in Light, and it was one of the best- if not the best colour matches in a base and face product that I've ever found. Usually paler shades aren't pale enough, and leave my face a tad orange-looking. Or they just wash me out completely because they are a more brightening than concealing product. But Kick Ass Step 2 was perfect for me

I use the apricot shade of Step 1 religiously every time I'm applying make up. The minute I've patted the product on my dark circles they are instantly brightened, and I look so much more awake. It's been a God-send product for those early morning work wake-up calls. The Step 2 face concealer has been great for hiding any pesky blemishes that have snuck in around my time of the month, and really help neutralise any areas of redness on my skin.

The setting powder I haven't really used yet. Purely because I use my Rimmel Stay Matte Powder, but just the fact that a powder is included pleases me greatly. The concealer is such a compact, handy little size, that if you were away overnight and needed a multi-functioning product it is perfect. The powder did also come with a dinky little sponge, but mine has got lost in transit.

The reason that my blog photos are so messy is because I literally haven't wanted to be parted from this product. I've been a bit too nervous to let it out my sight in case I misplace it. And you can see how much I've used it. Not even two months in and I'm touching pan. But I'm getting so much use out of the concealers I don't think I'll be running out any time soon. The 'blendability' (#newword) is so ridiculously good that you only need the smallest bit. It goes a long, long way.

The only minor downside to the product is the packaging. As pretty as it is, it's not 100% as durable as I would like. If you are not really careful opening each tier, the plastic can become disjointed or snap. The lid is now broken on mine because it has been manhandled so much. If you're light-handed (unlike me) this isn't a problem, but if you are over-enthusiastic, just be careful!

There is no question as to whether I will be repurchasing. I seriously have found my dream product. Not only does it work to perk my complexion up, but it's the perfect make up bag sized multi-functional product For the £10.00 (approx) price tag you are getting so much bank for your buck!

#AtoZChallenge / ESPA Naturally Radiant Tinted Moisturiser

Just Add Ginger blog

Just Add Ginger blog

Just Add Ginger blog

I have been the biggest fan of ESPA products ever since I discovered them through a goody bag at an NWBloggers event last year. First it was the foam bath, then the ProCleanser....and now with every product I try I am more and more impressed.

So when I heard that ESPA were releasing a tinted moisturiser - the ESPA Naturally Radiant Tinted Moisturiser - I knew I had to try it out. As I have gotten further in to my twenties, I am relying less and less on a full face of make up, and am turning more towards products that will show my visage some TLC and work to put some life back in to it. Early starts for work, not drinking as much water as I should, and exposure to city pollution mean that my skin doesn't always look the way I'd like it to. Wherever I can, I always try to treat it with love and give it the time and nurturing it deserves.

ESPA heard my call of interest in trying out the tinted moisturiser and very kindly sent me two sample sizes to try. The first in the palest shade on offer - Nude, and the second with a pinky-nude colour - Blush.

Religiously I sampled each shade every morning, using work the perfect excuse to throw on a little bit more make up than usual. Normally -and being honest here - I just can't be arsed with the faff of putting on a polished face of make up for work. I crawl out of bed, bleary-eyed, put on a bit of mascara, cover my dark circles with a dab of concealer and I'm good to go. But because the product is essentially a moisturiser, it found its place in my morning routine perfectly.

But before I get in to reviewing the tinted moisturiser itself, let's just take a moment to stare in awe at how pretty this packaging is. The sample tubes are metallic (almost rose gold) and shimmery, with the unmistakeable purple ESPA typography dancing on the front. It just looks so luxe and beautiful that it is a joy to display it on my make up stand. And I'm almost certain the sample sizes are perfect miniature forms of the standard. All of ESPA's products are simply stunning and chic in my eyes, but this packaging tops them all in my eyes. It's the colour combination that does it. Just. So. Pretty|!

The formulation of the tinted moisturiser is just as smooth as the packaging is pretty. It isn't too thick, and glides on to the skin with ease, blending in seamlessly. I spent time testing out both of the shades, and they both complemented my cheeks to perfection. But in very different ways. 01 Nude was almost a 100% match for my skintone, and provided slightly more coverage because it is completely matte. 02 Blush on my skin almost had a shimmer, and made my skin a bit more radiant and dewy. I can't comment as to whether it is meant to do this, but on my skin the finish it created was amazing. For a tinted moisturiser the coverage is fantastic, and I was really pleased by the fact that it didn't oxidise on my skin. I've had that trouble a lot in the past with tinted moisturisers and it is definitely NOT a sexy look!

Does the coverage last all day? No. Do I expect it to? No. ESPA have created a hybrid product here, and whereas the coverage is amazing, but I don't expect it to last all day with the thin layer I have been applying. Building up layer by layer to create a medium-coverage product I'm certain would mean the lasting power would increase by far, but I have been using it just as I would a moisturiser. And I wouldn't smear a thick layer of that on my face in the morning.

I am extremely impressed with the ESPA Naturally Radiant Tinted Moisturiser. The finish is unrivalled by any other tinted moisturiser I've tried. The colour-match to my skintone is just perfection, and the consistency is smooth and creamy, leaving my skin nourished, kissed back to life, and definitely not greasy. I will 100% be purchasing the full-size....once I can decide which shade I like the best!

I cannot recommend the ESPA tinted moisturiser enough. The coverage is lovely and natural, it leaves your skin feeling hydrated, and the packaging is gorgeous to boot (always an added bonus.) It is a little on the pricier size (a full-size is £32.00.) But ESPA products are always worth the investment. In my eyes, they have done no wrong, and continue to impress me, growing from strength to strength and helping make me feel gorgeous.

Guest Post Sundays | GlitZeeGlam: Flamingo Candles Review | Chocolate Orange

Just Add Ginger

Blogging brings me so much joy. It has brought me so far in so many different ways. Without this little space where I can express my creativity and show the world who I really am I honestly don't think I would be the same.

I reached out on Twitter to other bloggers who would like to guest post on Just Add Ginger. For the next few Sundays (hopefully,) there will be a Guest Post Sundays feature on my blog. First up is the lovely Zee from GlitZeeGlam. All her links are down below so make sure you go and say "Hi."

Ps: If you are interested in being a part of Guest Post Sundays, drop me an email or get in touch on Twitter

Hi Lovelies, my name’s Zee and I blog over at GlitZeeGlam. When Jackie asked on Twitter if anyone would like to guest post on her blog I jumped at the chance, I’ve actually brushed shoulders with Jackie at a Blogger event last year and we’ve stayed in contact through social media ever since. As you can tell from the title today’s post is all about a candle from Flamingo Candles.

GlitZeeGlam

GlitZeeGlam

Flamingo Candles is a British brand who manufactures exciting and innovative candles using natural soybeans and natural cotton for their wicks. All their candles are hand-poured into quirky contemporary jars with their trade mark of a Florrie Flamingo on the front.

I’m a massive candle lover and have at least one candle lit in my living room each evening; it just helps me to relax after a long day at work and of course keeps my home smelling lush.  Ever since Flamingo Candles launched they have taken social media by storm and most bloggers have bought copious amounts of candles (or been sent them) from this brand. I was lucky enough to have won a blogger giveaway recently which included a Flamingo Candle.

For those people who know me well they’ll tell you just how obsessed I am with Terry’s Chocolate Orange it’s without a doubt my favourite chocolate, I just love it! However, it wouldn’t be a scent that I would usually opt for in a candle as I usually go for fresh citrusy scents but the thought of my home smelling like my favourite chocolate is just amazing!

This little jar of goodness actually burns for up to 50 hours which is insane and the scent is just sublime, usually when you smell candles in a jar they smell really strong and when lit they hardly fragrant the room. You definitely won’t get that with Flamingo Candles their scents are just as powerful when lit. These candles would be perfect to light when entertaining guests or to buy as gifts, they retail for £12 which some may find quite steep but for someone who has bought candles for well over £20 I think it’s pretty reasonable for 200g of wax which smells so incredible.

If you fancy checking out the full range of products then head over to the Flamingo Candles website. I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, if you would like to find out a little more about me then head over to GlitZeeGlam alternatively you can follow me on my social network sites:

Zoella Beauty Part Two | Just Add Ginger

Zoella Beauty Review

If you read this blog post back in October, you will know that I made a few cheeky purchases from the Zoella Beauty range. I wanted to show my support for the YouTube & Blogging community and pick up just a few bits to see what Zoe's line is all about. In Part One , I did a review on Fizz Bar, and now it is the turn of Blissful Mistful - the fragranced body mist.

Zoella Beauty review

Firstly, let's talk about the packaging. Isn't it adorable? Following a similar design to the Fizz Bar, the polla-dotted bottle is quintessentially Zoella, and appeals to me greatly. The choice of using a glass bottle makes the body mist feel really luxurious and much more expensive. I think the choice of a square bottle is really chic, and the rose-gold coloured lid is a really elegant and feminine touch. It appeals to me as a woman in my late twenties, and I think it definitely appeals to teenagers too.The really simplistic design definitely looks very grown up.

The scent of Blissful Mistful is exactly the same as Fizz Bar -fresh, floral and ever-so-slightly citrus-sy. I prefer the scent a lot more in the body mist form, because, every time I have use it, it immediately makes me feel refreshed. It's one of those scents I always go to if I feel I need a little refreshing pick-me-up.

Does the formula of Blissful Mistful have lasting power? No. Not really. Am I disappointed? A little bit. Who doesn't like a perfume or body spray that once spritzed on your skin lasts all day? One of the reasons I left so long in between Zoella Beauty reviews is because I really wanted to give the body mist a chance. I used it as a day perfume, a night perfume, and to the gym (for road testing and sweaty BO control!) Don't get me wrong, I think the body mist is really versatile, and the scent is suitable for a variety of occasions, but pretty much as soon as I sprayed it on my skin, the smell would disappear. Now, to be fair, I don't know if Blissful Mistful is designed to be a fragrance that lasts all day, but I don't think anything is meant to fade that quickly. On my clothes, it's a different story, and the scent of the body mist lasts for ages. Boyfriend has commented a few times on how nice it smells when he's sitting next to me and catches a whiff, and when I tell him what it is, he is really surprised.

So. Would I buy Blissful Mistful again? If I was 10 years younger, maybe, but as a twenty-seven year old I think I'm a bit out of the demographic to really appreciate the product. I think if you're a teenager girl, or woman in your early twenties, and looking for a boy spray/perfume hybrid. Ten plus years ago, when I was so excited to find a body mist or body spray that rivalled my all-time favourite Impulse fragrances it would be perfect. But now, Id rather save my pennies and save up for a higher end perfume that has a more mature and long-lasting scent. I think I'm just beyond the body mist phase (unless I'm leaving the gym of course.)  I also think that the price tag is just a little too steep. Don't get me wrong, my bottle is sitting next to me and I have loads left, but if I was younger, and this potentially the only fragrance I owned, I think it would vanish far too fast to justify money.

To summarise, I think I am just too old to appreciate what Blissful Mistful has to offer. However, I think this would make an ideal gift for a teenage relative for the upcoming festive season.

If you have tried Blissful Mistful, what did you think? Have you tried any of the other Zoella Beauty products?

Psst...... If you want to learn more about the Zoella beauty range, you can find products on Superdrug.com or FeelUnique.com (the links will take you straight to the Zoella Beauty range.)

#Blogtember Day Two: The Best Eye Make Up Remover I've Found!

I suffer from incredible sensitive skin, particularly on my face. I have to be so careful when it comes to finding new cleansers, masks, toners and moisturisers to use because my skin can react so quickly to ingredients that may be too harsh. This seems to be even more tricky when it comes to finding products that are eye friendly. Because of my skin tone and hair colour, the skin underneath my eyes is particularly thin and irritable. This makes using make up remover there almost impossible.

It was at The Body Shop Wild Argan Oil launch event in Liverpool One that Sarah (Saloca in Wonderand) introduced me to The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Make Up Remover. She absolutely sung its praises, and when I mentioned how sensitive my eyes were, she assured me that the product wouldn't irritate me at all.

What could I do but give it a go?

This is honestly (so far) the most amazing and gentle make up remover I've found. At £8.00 for a 150ml bottle it isn't overly expensive either! The packaging is gorgeous in its simplicity. A clear bottle with a slightly blue hue and decorated with two pictures of camomile flowers. I like that the packaging is understated. It doesn't need to be OTT, and the clear bottle means you are well aware of how much solution you have left and if it is mixed properly (you have to shake it to activate it.)

Although on The Body Shop website, it says the product has no fragrance, to me at least, the remover does has a faint scent of camomile to it. But this is in no way overbearing and has no effect on the skin. It is easy to apply too....simply shake the bottle to activate the product, pour some on to a cotton pad, and apply to the area where make up needs to be removed. And voila! In only a matter of seconds all your make up is removed with no trace that it had ever been in place.

I've only had it a matter of weeks, but The Body Shop Camomile Waterproof Eye & Lip Make-Up Remover is the best thing for my eyes I have tried. It does not irritate my skin, and does a great job at removing all the eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara and brow gel I apply. For somebody who finds it incredibly hard to find products that successfully remove all my eye make up without having that unbearable stinging sensation that leaves you momentarily blinded and searching for something to wipe away the pain.

So if this tale of picky skin, irritated eyes, and last night's mascara that you are still trying to take off rings true for you, definitely consider giving this make up remover a go. Cos' now that I've added it to my skincare routine, it's here to stay!
